ANOTHER WIN FOR VANDOORN AND KAOS MOTORSPORTS!!!
Johnny VanDoorn and the KAOS Motorsports team headed down to Salem Speedway for only it's second race in the month of June due to rain outs-and the team came home with it's second win of the 2009 season!
The team headed down to Salem on Friday night with no rain in the forecast-but high temperatures expected to be around 92 degrees. We were all just happy to be able to race-we were getting too good at loading and unloading the trailer-which is all we have been doing this year!!!
Johnny was 5th fastest in the first practice session-and said the car felt good-it just needed a couple of adjustments to make it better. Those adjustments were made and Johnny was second fast in the last practice. Johnny and the team talked about what changes they wantd to make before qualifying-all the while keeping in mind that the race was an impound race meaning the team would only be able to adjust air presure in the tires-and that is all....
Johnny went went out about half way through the qualifying order and laid down a lap of 16.716 seconds-which averaged out to 119.526 MPH. This was good enough to place second behind Chuck Barnes Jr., a hometown favorite at Salem. Barnes then rolled a five for the inversion-putting Johnny 4th on the starting grid.
With the drop of the green flag, Johnny and outside pole sitter Rick Turner took off-breaking away from the rest of the pack by a couple of car lengths. A Caution came out on the first lap-so a complete restart was in order.
Again, Turner and Johnny broke away from the field. Johnny rode in second place shadowing Turner then made a pass for the lead on lap 19. Johnny would never look back, leading the rest of the race en route to the win over Scott Hantz by 5.572 seconds!
"We had a really good car today. We learned a couple of things from our race at Winchester earlier this year and tweaked a couple of things-and it made a good car a great car! My crew worked really hard today in this heat and did a great job-never complaining-and that work is why we won this race today." VanDoorn added "I also have to thank Baker Engineering for the power that we have had all year-that power and our Port City chassis is turning out to be a pretty good combination."
VanDoorn's win puts him on top of the series points battle by 7 points over Scott Hantz.
The next race for KAOS Motorsports will be on July 4th at the Angola Motor Speedway. |
